Artificial Intelligence-based powerful search tool Sensei, is one of the prominent features of Lightroom. Sensei automatically recognizes objects into photos stored on Adobe’s cloud servers and helps you find them when you need them the most.

Thanks to the non-destructive nature of image editing, Lightroom has been extremely popular among newbies and people who don’t have a photo editing background or expertise. Lightroom does not alter the original image, instead it creates an identical copy that stores the edited image as a separate image. Users can undo any changes made to their photos for an unlimited number of times. Unfortunately, sometimes this feature leads to unwanted duplication of your images. Your hard disk gets filled with exact or visually-similar images as you use Lightroom for a long time.

Duplicate photos are commonly classified as junk files. Aside from eating up a precious portion of the hard disk, they require the user to perform additional steps and spend more time in finding the right file they’re looking for. Although you can manually search for duplicate photos, it’s not recommended. Manually searching duplicate photos can be a complex, daunting task, requiring you to browse from folder to folder. Benefits:

  • Lightroom builds a catalog of images on the hard disk. Due to duplication, the size of the database grows rapidly and causes the application to run slower or respond with delays. Cleaning duplicates occasionally will make Lightroom run faster, smoother and less prone to errors & crashes.
  • Finding the right photo will become easier with few or no variants of the same files in the search results.
  • Deduping your Lightroom library on Windows 11 will save the storage for files that you really need.
  • If you’re planning to sync your photos online or share them with your friends or colleagues, it’s a good idea to remove duplicates first. It will save Internet bandwidth, and make the file syncing/ sharing task simple and straightforward.
