Speed Up the Performance of Microsoft Edge

Solution 1: Update Windows

Since Microsoft Edge is a part of Windows 10, it can only be updated once the user opts for a Windows Update. The process is quite straightforward and usually automated unless it’s stopped manually.

  1. Open the start menu.
  2. Search for Check for updates. Open it.

  3. Click the Download button to initiate the download.

  4. Once the download is over, the updates will be automatically installed. Upon successful completion, Windows will automatically restart itself.

 

Solution 2: Install The Latest Graphics Driver

Microsoft Edge utilizes the Graphics Card to improve its performance. This is also quite useful when either any particular webpage contains a lot of GIF images, or when the user is watching a high definition video in the browser. To get the most out of the Graphics Card, it needs to be updated to the latest version. Follow these instructions to update it.

  1. Click the start button.
  2. Search for Device Manager.

Solution 3: Clear The Browser Cache

Even though Browser Cache helps speed up the overall browsing experience, it can slow down the overall performance of the browser if the number of Cache files goes way too high. Microsoft Edge facilitates clearing the Cache files with a single click.

  1. Launch Microsoft Edge.
  2. Locate the three dotted button, click it.

  3. Select Settings from the menu.

  4. Unlike other popular browsers, Edge doesn’t cover the entire browser with its settings window. It simply opens the settings window as a sidebar on the right side of the browser. Scroll down a bit and locate Choose what to clear under the Clear browsing data heading.

  5. Select the relevant options and then click the Clear button.

  6. Finally, restart the browser to freshen it up.

 

Solution 4: Remove or Change Proxy

Proxies are used to mask the IP of the visitor, filter certain content and improve the speed of a network by caching frequently requested data. Therefore proxies are known to cause a lot of connectivity issues, performance issues depending on the nature of the proxy. If the currently active proxy is found to cause any performance issues, simply turn it off or switch to a different, better performing proxy.

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. In the browser, locate and click on the three dotted button icon.
  3. Click Settings.

  5. Click Open proxy settings under Proxy setup.

  6. In the proxy window, scroll down a bit and locate Manual proxy setup.

  7. If you intend to switch to a different proxy, turn it on and then specify it’s address and port (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxxx where Xs are numbers. Maximum allowed port number is 65535, maximum allowed IP address is 255.255.255.255) in the text boxes as seen in the following screenshot.

  8. Once these steps have been completed, click Save to save the changes.
