Windows notifications are designed to inform the user about any changes that are brought about in the computer as soon as they take place. These notifications

are very helpful indeed, but on the other hand they also serve to distract the user from the very pressing engagement they turned on their computer for! Here are a few methods that can help the user evade these notifications.

 

Hide All Pop-Ups Temporarily

Simply hide all notifications with a single click by selecting the Clear All option in the top-right corner of the Notification Centre.

 

Disable Notifications Permanently

You can use the Settings area to good effect to permanently disable notifications from all such apps that prove to be extremely disturbing with their notifications. You can turn on these notifications at a later stage if you change your mind. Here is how to do so:

  1. Click Start | Settings | System.
  2. Click the Notifications & Actions tab.
  3. Now scroll down and locate the app for which you intend to disable the notifications under the Show notifications from these apps heading.
  4. Move the corresponding slider to the left (Off).
  5. Exit the window.

 

Remove Malicious Programs / Apps

You might have somehow ended up installing a rogue program / app on your computer that is constantly throwing up advertising pop-ups of many kinds and this event has simply driven you to the boiling point in no time. What you should do in such a scenario is to review all apps which you installed around the time when such pop-ups started to appear. Next, you should also scan your computer for viruses as well as spyware softwares by suing reputable programs.

  1. Click Start | Settings.
  2. Now click the System icon.
  3. Click Apps and Features.
  4. You’ll be provided with the list of all the apps installed in the computer. Arrange them in the datewise manner by selecting Sort by install date from the dropdown menu.
  5. Now you can easily identify and remove all programs that have come from untrusted / unknown publishers.

 

Block Pop-Ups in the Browser

Here is how you can very easily block pop-ups within the browser while you’re on the internet.

Microsoft Edge:

  1. Click the More Actions (three dots in succession) icon.
  2. Select Settings | View advanced settings.
  3. Move the Block Pop-Ups slider to the right (On).

 

Other Browsers:

Download a program that blocks online pop-ups and advertisements, for example Ad-Blocker. Install it, restart your computer and from then onwards there won’t be any pop-ups that appear out of the blue on your computer while you’re surfing the internet.
