If you\u2019re using Windows 10, you must have noticed a performance decline. It is common for old systems that were designed to run previous versions of the operating system. Some activities that you can perform to speed up Windows 10<\/strong> and file explorer performance include cleaning system junk regularly for better speed.   1. Start<\/strong> \u2192 \u00a0Control Panel<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  2. Open Administrative Tools<\/b><\/li>\n
  3. Right click on Services <\/b>and click on Run as administrator<\/b>.<\/li>\n
  4. Scroll down for Windows Search<\/b> service and start it.<\/li>\n
  5. Go to Properties of Windows Search<\/strong> and set the Startup Type<\/strong> to Automatic <\/b>or Automatic (Delayed Start)<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Change optimization type for the folder<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    This may have happened when the file indexing is performed in the background. When your folders contain large files (such as videos), Windows<\/strong> will scan and store the file attributes whenever you try to access the folder.<\/p>\n

    The best way to avoid this is to tell Windows<\/strong> not to optimize the corresponding folder for videos, but to general files.<\/p>\n

    1. In File Explorer<\/strong>, hit your middle finger to move to the folder properties.<\/li>\n
    2. The go to the Customize <\/b>tab.<\/li>\n
    3. Under the\u00a0Optimize this folder for<\/b> drop-down menu, select General items<\/b>.<\/li>\n
    4. You can select Also apply this template to all subfolders<\/b>.<\/li>\n
    5. Click OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      I think this is due to the indexing and ‘optimizations’ happening in the background. \u00a0Your folder most probably has large video files and the system scans and stores the video attributes every time you open the folder.<\/p>\n

      Disable Quick access<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      Windows 10<\/strong> has introduced a new Quick access<\/strong>\u00a0view to replace the Favorite Folders<\/strong> list in previous Windows<\/strong> versions. This Quick access<\/strong> view will show you a list of frequently used folders and recent files.<\/p>\n

      A considerable amount of processing is required to suggest this list, hence it will show some symptoms of lagging. There are two possible solutions you can apply to increase the performance of File Explorer<\/strong> to avoiding Quick access<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

      1. Change the usual view to This PC<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      2. Stop displaying recent files\/ folder on Quick access<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      3. Open the File Explorer<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      4. File<\/strong> \u2192 Change folder and search options<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      5. Unselect Show recently used files in Quick Access<\/strong>\u00a0and\/ or Show recently used<\/strong> folder in Quick Access<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      6. Click Apply <\/b>and then OK<\/b>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Apart from all the above solutions, Windows 10<\/strong> is still known to have a lot of performance issues, especially related to File Management<\/strong>. Hence, it is always better to have an SSD<\/strong> to run Windows 10<\/strong>.
