Some users have noticed severe mouse lags as soon as they upgrade their PCs to\u00a0Windows 10<\/b>, Microsoft<\/b>‘s newly released version that comes with plenty of new features.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This specific issue which we\u2019re out to discuss today is faced when the mouse driver is not compatible with Windows 10<\/b>. However, there can be other reasons as well, like one or more peripheral devices interfere with the functioning of the mouse, or the video card driver and power management settings are not properly configured. There is an easy way to optimize Mouse performance in Windows 10. It is to clean and optimize the entire operating system using the holistic software, ST Cleaner.<\/p>\n

Set Optimum Mouse Configs<\/h2>\n

Display pointer trails, smart move and game acceleration features can cause severe mouse lags. Disable these features and set the default pointers settings. Also, make sure that the vertical and horizontal scrolling are set not too high.<\/p>\n

  1. Click the Start <\/b>button on the Taskbar<\/b>.<\/li>\n
  2. Click Settings<\/b> icon.<\/li>\n
  3. Type Mouse <\/b>in the Search Box<\/b> located on the top-right corner of the newly open window.<\/li>\n
  4. Open Mouse and Touchpad Settings <\/b>from the Search Results<\/b>.<\/li>\n
  5. Click Additional Mouse Options <\/b>under the Related Settings<\/strong> category.<\/li>\n
  6. A new dialog named Mouse Properties<\/b> will open on your screen.<\/li>\n
  7. Click the Buttons <\/b>tab and select your pointing device from the Devices <\/b>drop-down box.<\/li>\n
  8. Make sure that the Double Clicks Speed <\/b>is set to 7<\/b>. (Use the slider)<\/li>\n
  9. Click Apply<\/b>.<\/li>\n
  10. Click the Pointers <\/b>tab, select None <\/b>option from the Scheme <\/b>drop-down box.<\/li>\n
  11. Click the Use Default <\/b>button to set default pointer settings.<\/li>\n
  12. Click Apply<\/b>.<\/li>\n
  13. Click the Pointer Options <\/b>tab.<\/li>\n
  14. Move the pointer speed slider under the Motion<\/strong> category to the 6<\/b>th point.<\/li>\n
  15. Uncheck the boxes labeled as Display pointer trails<\/b>, Smart move <\/b>and Acceleration in games<\/b>. (Some users may find that the last 2 features are unavailable on their machines.)<\/li>\n
  16. Click Apply<\/b>.<\/li>\n
  17. Click the Wheel <\/b>tab.<\/li>\n
  18. Under the Vertical scrolling <\/b>category, select The following number of lines at a time<\/b>.<\/li>\n
  19. Set both the Vertical Scrolling <\/b>and Horizontal Scrolling <\/b>values to 3<\/b>.<\/li>\n
  20. Click Apply<\/b> | OK<\/b>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Reinstall Mouse Drivers<\/h2>\n

    A Mouse Driver<\/strong> facilitates smooth communication between your computer and the mouse & pointing device. The mouse driver , might be outdated and hence it should be updated at the earliest. Search for an updated version online.<\/p>\n

    1. Press Windows Key <\/b>+ X<\/b>, select Device Manager<\/b>.<\/li>\n
    2. In the left corner of the newly open screen, expand the top node.<\/li>\n
    3. Expand Mice and Other Pointing Devices<\/b>.<\/li>\n
    4. Right-click the HID-compliant Mouse <\/b>and select Uninstall <\/b>option.<\/li>\n
    5. Once the uninstall is completed, restart your computer.<\/li>\n
    6. Open the Device Manager <\/b>again. (Refer to steps # 1-2 above)<\/li>\n
    7. Right-click the top node, select Scan for hardware changes<\/b>.<\/li>\n
    8. Your Mouse will be recognised and reinstalled.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Note:<\/b><\/span><\/em> If you\u2019re using a Non-Plug & Play Mouse<\/b>, please visit the manufacturer\u2019s website or the CD ROM<\/b> that came with the product box for the driver\u2019s setup.<\/p>\n

      Set Optimum ATI Graphics Settings<\/h2>\n

      If you have AMD Radeon<\/b>, AMD FireGL<\/b> or any other AMD<\/b> display card installed, you might want to stop the ATI Hotkey Poller<\/b> service which is known for consuming higher system resources and mouse lagging.<\/p>\n

      1. Type Services.msc <\/b>in the Search <\/b>Box on the Taskbar<\/b>.<\/li>\n
      2. Open the Services <\/b>tool from the Search Results<\/b>.<\/li>\n
      3. Locate the ATI HotKey Poller<\/b> service.<\/li>\n
      4. Once you find that particular service, right-click it and select Properties \u00a0<\/b>from the context menu.<\/li>\n
      5. Click the General <\/b>tab and make sure that the service is stopped from loading at the boot interval. To do so, set the Startup Option <\/b>to Disabled<\/b>, and then click Apply <\/b>| OK<\/b>.<\/li>\n
      6. Close the Services<\/b> window.<\/li>\n
      7. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Avoid Physical Interferences<\/h2>\n

        If you are using a peripheral device, such as a digital photo camera, external hard disk, USB stick or external speaker, please disconnect it. These peripheral devices are known for causing interference between the mouse and the computer.<\/p>\n

        Change Power Management Settings<\/h2>\n

        Your computer may be configured to switch to the USB Root Hub<\/b>, a feature that automatically switches off a device for consuming less power. This mode, which is an integral part of Windows<\/b> power saving and management feature, causes mouse lockups and your mouse lags repeatedly.<\/p>\n

        1. Open the Device Manager<\/b>.<\/li>\n
        2. Expand the top node.<\/li>\n
        3. Look for and expand Universal Serial Bus Controller <\/b>node.<\/li>\n
        4. Right-click USB Root Hub <\/b>and select Properties<\/b>.<\/li>\n
        5. Click the Power Management <\/b>tab.<\/li>\n
        6. Uncheck the box labelled Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power<\/b>.<\/li>\n
