There are several reasons that can be attributed to a DVD<\/b> drive not showing up in Windows 10<\/b>. It could be that Windows<\/b> might have failed to detect the writable DVD drive and hence no icon appears in the File Explorer<\/b> (earlier known as Windows Explorer<\/b>). Go through these steps to deal with this problem:<\/p>\n

Delete Upper & Lower Filters<\/h2>\n

There are some particular Registry<\/b> keys that specifically deal with the DVD <\/b>\/ CD Drive<\/b> data transmission and driver information. Detailed instructions on deleting both these keys are given below:<\/p>\n

  1. Press Windows Key <\/b>+ R<\/b>.<\/li>\n
  2. Type RegEdit <\/b>and click OK<\/b>.<\/li>\n
  3. Locate the following subkey:
    \nHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Contro l\\Class\\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}<\/b><\/li>\n
  4. In the right panel of the window, you\u2019ll find the Upper Filters <\/b>string.<\/li>\n
  5. Right-click it, choose Delete<\/b>.<\/li>\n
  6. Right-click Lower Filters <\/b>string and choose Delete<\/b>.<\/li>\n
  7. Exit out of the screen.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Use Troubleshooter<\/h2>\n

    Windows 10<\/b> comes with a preinstalled diagnostic utility that is designed to detect and resolve trivial issues like the one under discussion.<\/p>\n

    1. In the Search <\/b>Box on the Taskbar<\/b>, type Troubleshooting<\/b>.<\/li>\n
    2. Click Troubleshooting <\/b>icon under the Search Results<\/b>.<\/li>\n
    3. You have a new window. Click the View All <\/b>link on the panel located on left side of your screen.<\/li>\n
    4. Select Windows Media Player DVD<\/b>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Note:<\/b><\/em> If the problem still persists, try the Hardware and Devices<\/b> option.<\/p>\n

      Reinstall DVD Drive Drivers<\/h2>\n

      Use the\u00a0Device Manager<\/b>\u00a0to gather the list of devices installed on your laptop\/ computer. Check whether the DVD Drive<\/b> entry is greyed out. There might be driver issues or the driver installation files might have gone corrupt.<\/p>\n

      1. Press Windows Key <\/b>+ X<\/b>; choose Device Manager<\/b>.<\/li>\n
      2. Expand the top node named after your laptop\/ computer\u2019s name.<\/li>\n
      3. Expand DVD\/ CD-ROM Drivers<\/b> node.<\/li>\n
      4. Right-click your DVD Drive, choose Uninstall<\/b> option.<\/li>\n
      5. After successful uninstall, close the window and restart your laptop.<\/li>\n
      6. Open up the Device Manager<\/b> again.<\/li>\n
