If you wish to have an improved experience with Windows Search, you first need to ensure that your computer’s drive indexing feature is enabled. This feature automatically indexes all the files stored in selected drives. When this feature is enabled, a user can get relevant and accurate search results in a shorter period of time. However, when this feature is disabled, a user may not be able to obtain accurate results.

Follow the given steps to check if Indexing Options has been turned on for your computer.

Hold and press the Windows + X keys together.

Choose the Search option.

A Search Box will appear. Type Indexing Options in it.

Select the Indexing Options under the Settings heading.

Hit the Modify button.

Now click the Show all locations button.

Ensure that all drives are selected beneath the Change selected locations group.

Click OK | Close.

Searching and Deleting Duplicate Images

Double-click the This PC/ My Computer icon in your desktop.

Open any drive, which contains duplicate images. Let’s say you open drive E.

Hit the F3 key from your keyboard to initialize a new Search.

Type the following keywords turn by turn in the Search Box located at the top right corner:

.png

.gif

.jpg

.jpeg

If the Ribbon is minimized, hold and press the Ctrl + F1 keys together to see an expanded view.

Select the View tab.

Drag the pointer towards the Pane category on the extreme left corner of the screen and then select Preview Pane.

Go to the Current View category and then click Group by.

A drop down box will appear. Doing so will display all your desired search results sorted out according to the settings you just applied a while ago. You will also be able to see each file’s details such as name, type, size, parent folder and date modified. All the duplicate images will be appearing side by side with the original image file.

Compare all image previews to identify the duplicates.

Select all unnecessary duplicate files using the following method:

Press the Ctrl key and click simultaneously to select files in a non-sequential manner.

Press the Shift key and click simultaneously to keep selecting files in a sequence.

Hit the Delete key on your keyboard if you wish to move these files directly to the Recycle Bin. Or else, to be on the safe side, you could make a new folder to be able to review the files later on and then decide about them.

Automatic Deletion of Image Files

Even though manually sorting and deleting duplicate images is effective, it is quite tiring as well as time consuming. Providing an alternative to this monotonous task, Clone Files Checker allows users to easily remove image files (including JPEG, JPG, PNG and GIF) with great ease.

Clone Files Checker

CFC is compatible with Windows 10, 8.1, 8 and 7 and it also contains handy functionality that enables users to scan their Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive accounts directly! Once the scan is over, it allows users to specify whether they want automatic deletion or they want to review all the files and then delete them on their own. The latter is usually recommended since it is considered safer and quicker. Some of CFC’s salient features are described below:

CFC offers a quick scan process. It can search and scan the entire hard drive along with any removable media (such as a USB Flash Drive) instantly.

A user does not need to worry about accidentally deleting valuable files. The
advanced algorithms in CFC ensure that only duplicate files are removed.

Instead of deleting files directly, you could also choose to first move them into a separate folder so that you can review then later. This method can come in handy if you are reluctant of direct deletion.

The software application has an additional Backup feature that allows users to easily recover deleted files. So, even if you have deleted something by mistake, you can always recover it. No hassles!

The Scan history is always recorded. You can export it to a Text File (.txt) as well.

How Clone Files Checker Works

Download the Clone Files Checker software and run its installation set-up.

Add up all the directories that you intend to scan.

Determine filter options. Choose the type of files you wish to be scanned. To specifically look for images, first select the Custom option.

Check the box in front of Images.

If you wish to determine a range of file sizes to be scanned, you could do that in the same filter options.

Click Start Search to initiate the scan.

If you want automatic deletion of duplicate files, choose the Fix Wizard option. If you want to review the images, select the Review & Fix option.

Depending on your preference, you can move them to the Recycle Bin, or else move them into a new folder.

Job done. Duplicate JPEG, JPG, PNG and GIF images have been deleted securely.

Today we will guide you about two strategies through which you can delete duplicate image files and save up tons of storage in your computer.
