Internal Power Error Windows 10

This error is very common on machines running AMD Catalyst Driver. After boot, you PC shows an error message and randomly restarts. Here are the instructions to fix the error permanently.

Set Safe Boot with Minimal Startups

Safe Mode, also called Safe Boot, limits the number of startups executed after Windows 10 boot interval. It is important to disable faulty/ incompatible startups in order to troubleshoot Internal Power Error. After opening System Configuration by typing MSCONFIG command in Run dialog, limit the startups by checking “Safe Boot” checkbox in Boot tab and then restarting your PC. If the error code disappears in safe mode, one or more startup items are causing this problem. To figure out the faulty/ incompatible startup, test Windows in normal mode by restoring default settings in System Configuration and then testing all startups one by one using Task Manager.

Download AMD Catalyst Driver

Even if you’ve AMD Catalyst Driver installed, uninstall it and reinstall the latest version compatible with Windows 10. There are perhaps compatibility issues with your driver. Generally many people use age old Drivers CD that come with their PCs to install their drivers. To begin with, you’ve two alternatives — download AMD Driver AutoDetect Utility to detect your computer’s configurations automatically and download supported drivers; or if you’re an advanced user, visit the Drivers & Download Center, specify your model number and download latest appropriate driver.

Do not run the setup file yet. Using Device Manager program in Windows 10 uninstall existing Display Driver with Driver Properties dialog box after expanding its node. After successfully uninstalling it, do reboot and remove following folders:

  • C:\AMD\
  • C:\Program Files\AMD\
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\AMD\

You must remove all leftover traces of the previous version completely which includes installation folders and Registry entries. Download a reputed registry cleaner and optimizer, and remove all Registry entries of the previously installed AMD Driver. After successful completion, use the newly downloaded driver setup to install it on your PC with administrator account.

Test Sign Driver Packages

Use File Signature Verification Tool in Windows 10 to test scan all installed drivers for digital signatures. Verified third-party drivers are digitally signed by Microsoft for their quality, functioning and authenticity. Internal power error Windows 10 occurs due to unsigned drivers installed from pirated or untrusted sources. Run the File Signature Verification Tool by using “sigverif.exe” command in Run dialog or typing it in Search box of your Start Menu. Click Start button in its user interface.
