How Does OneDrive Sync Work on Mac?

Microsoft OneDrive is one of the leading cloud services available right now. With instrumental features such as sync, it is indeed a game-changer. In this article, let’s dive deep into OneDrive for Mac.

How Does It Work on Mac?

OneDrive’s intelligent algorithms do all the work on their own and keep it simple for the users. After installing the OneDrive app, a copy of your cloud data is downloaded and saved into your device inside the OneDrive folder.

Without any trouble, this folder is synced with your web drive. Uploading files to your OneDrive is quite simple. You could do so by copying or moving files to the OneDrive folder via the Finder, or else you can directly open the app and save files into your OneDrive folder. You could easily upload up to 5 GB of data this way. Not just this, but Mac users can also use the Finder to create new folders or even rename files.

Each change/edit/deletion you make on the web is automatically replicated to the OneDrive folder on your Mac. Similarly, if you make any change locally on your computer, your OneDrive Cloud account will be updated. The process works smoothly even if you have installed your OneDrive Sync on multiple devices. All files will be immediately synced on all devices. Sounds convenient, no?

The processes and features of OneDrive for Business are also the same. Once you have installed the app and signed in, there are only a few things you need to take care of.

  • To begin with, navigate towards the This Is Your OneDrive Folder screen.
  • Here, click on the option that says Choose OneDrive Folder Location. Now, you can select the location where you wish to store all your OneDrive files.
  • After you have selected your desired location, you’ll be able to see the path on your screen. Click Next.
  • Now, you’ll be directed to the Sync Files from Your OneDrive section.
  • Here, you can select/ unselect specific folders from your Mac that you wish to sync. This saves space, optimizes performance and ensures that only the necessary content is synced. Hit Next when you’re done.
  • Your window will now read Your OneDrive Is Ready for You.
  • Select the checkbox for the Open at login so my files sync automatically option to ensure that you always have an up to date backup.

That’s pretty much it! To check your synced files, you can simply open up the OneDrive app via the Finder. You’ll also find an icon in the Dock (or two – depending on how many accounts you have signed in with).

OneDrive is an ideal, easy-to-use solution for all real-time backup and file transfer purposes. Do give it a try today.
