Fix for Windows Runtime Error 216
An error appears “Runtime Error 216 at Address” every time Windows is booted or Internet Explorer/other programs are started. Delete Sub Seven Registry Entries
The Sub Seven Trojan modifies computer Registry in such a way that it runs every time your computer is started. Hackers use it to steal personal and confidential information. Here are the removal instructions:
- Click Start, point to All Programs | Accessories | Run.
- Type RegEdit in the Open box.
- Click OK.
- Locate following Registry path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | Software | Sub Seven - Right click the “SUB SEVEN” Registry key, select “Delete” option.
- Click “Yes” to confirm.
Delete Sub Seven Files
Sub Seven files are located on different directories of your hard disk. Follow these guidelines to fix runtime error 21:
- Click Start, point to All Programs | Accessories | Run.
- Type “MSConfig” in the Open box.
- Click OK.
- Under General tab, select “Selective Startup” option.
- Uncheck “Load startup items” checkbox. Keep “Load system services” checked-up.
- Click Apply | OK.
- Restart Windows when prompted.
- Click Start, point to All Programs | Accessories.
- Right click “Command Prompt”, select “Run as Administrator”.
- Command Prompt shall open.
- Type following commands-
cd Windows
del systemtrayicon.exe
exit - Command Prompt shall close.
Rename “Watching.dll” File
The exact location of this file is unknown. This could be a Trojan file. Search and rename it as shown below:
- Double click My Computer desktop icon.
- Type “watching.dll” (without quotes) in the top right corner Search box and press ENTER. Or simply press F2, enter the Search keyword & press ENTER.
- Let the Windows search for this file. After the file is found, please do right click it and select “Rename”.
- Type “watching.dll.old” and press ENTER.
- Restart your computer.
Fix Remaining Registry Errors
After deleting the Sub Seven Trojan virus Registry entries and files, the next step is to fix all Registry errors. This is the most important step. It is very important because the Trojan has modified your Registry and changed system settings & built several loopholes.
Deal with the Registry loopholes, erroneous & infected entries as outlined below:
