Fix AppCrash Error in Windows PC

Step-by-Step Guide for Windows 8.1 / 8 / 7 & Vista

It is important that you carry out these steps in order to fix the problem effectively:

Delete Temporary Contents

Applications keep files in temporary directories during runtime. These files are kept for temporary purpose. Once the application is closed the files are automatically removed. However, due to some reasons sometimes the files get corrupted. Failure to delete such files causes runtime errors. Fix App Crash error in Windows PC as shown below:

  • Exit all running applications, if any.
  • Press Windows Key + R.
  • Run dialog will open. Type “AppData” and click OK.
  • Open the following folder:

    ..\Local\Temp
  • Select all files in that folder and delete them.

Exclude DLLHost.exe File from DEP

DLLHost.exe file is stored in the System32 directory. Your computer may encounter AppCrash error when this file is blocked by a security feature called Data Execution Prevention. Exclude the file as shown here:

  • Right click Computer desktop icon.
  • Select Properties.
  • Click “Advanced system settings” link on the left.
  • Click Advanced tab, and Settings button under Performance category.
  • Click Data Execution Prevention tab.
  • Select the option “Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select”.
  • Click Add button, browse and locate the following file:

    C:\Windows\System32\DLLHost.exe
  • Click Open button, and then OK | OK.

Change File Compatibility Preferences

File compatibility feature provides an option to run an executable file in different environments and settings. Change compatibility settings to fix AppCrash Windows 7 and 8.

  • Double click Computer desktop icon.
  • Open the following path:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4
  • Right click “bf4.exe” file, select Properties.
  • Click Compatibility tab.
  • Check-up the box labelled “Run this program in compatibility mode”.
  • Select an earlier version of Windows.
  • Click OK button.

Reinstall Mozilla Firefox

If you’re experiencing issues while running Mozilla Firefox uninstall and reinstall it. Make sure to delete program files manually.

  • Press Windows Key + X.
  • Click “Programs and Features”.
  • Right click Mozilla Firefox, select Uninstall button.
  • Restart the PC.
  • Delete the following folders:

    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
  • Download a fresh version online.

Change Environment Variables

Environment Variables settings are found in system properties dialog box. Fix AppCrash by changing the environment variables as under:

  • Press Windows Key + R.
  • Type “SysDM.cpl” and then click OK.
  • Click Advanced tab.
  • Click Environment Variables button.
  • Select “Path” under “System Variables” category and “Variable” column.
  • Click Edit button.
  • A new sub dialog will open. In the Variable Value add following value at the end of the existing paths:

    ;C:\program files (x86)\common files\apple\apple application support\
  • Note: There is a semicolon before the path. Copy/ paste the command properly without missing any part.
  • Click OK | OK | OK.

Change World of Warcraft Preferences

If you’re not able to play World of Warcraft change its preferences from the Options menu.

  • Double click Computer desktop icon.
  • Open the following folder:

    C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft\
  • Right click “Launcher.exe” and select “Run as administrator”.
  • Click Options in the main menu.
  • Navigate to Game Preferences.
  • Set Graphics API to Microsoft DirectX 9.
  • Click OK.
  • Close and re-open the game.

Run WOW in Windowed Mode

There are two ways of running World of Warcraft, viz. full screen mode or windowed mode. Run it in the windowed mode assuming your computer doesn’t support full screen mode.

  • Follow Steps 1-2 from the above paragraph “Change World of Warcraft Preferences”.
  • Right click “Launcher.exe” and select Properties.
  • Click the Shortcut tab.
  • In the Target textbox, modify the executable path in the following format:
    “(File Path) -opengl -windowed -nosound

    Example:
    "C:\Users\Vikas\Games\World of Warcraft\Launcher.exe" -opengl -windowed –nosound
  • Click Apply | OK and re-launch the game.
