Refresh the PC

PC Refresh removes third party programs except the applications you downloaded from the Windows Store. One or more installed application is incompatible. Removing incompatible application will resolve Deadlink.sys BSOD issue. This feature is not available in earlier versions of Windows. Only newer versions come up with it.


For Windows 8.1/ 8 ONLY:

  • Press Windows Key + X.
  • Select Search option.
  • Type “Refresh your PC” in the Search Box.
  • Click the Settings icon.
  • Open it from the Search Results.
  • Metro application will open. Click the Next button and follow the on-screen instructions.

Remove the Updates

Did you update your PC recently? A recent update might have caused this trouble. Sort the list of updates by their installation date-time. You can see the updates installed recently and accordingly uninstall them so as to ensure there are no conflicts.


For Windows 8.1/ 8:

  • Press the Windows Key.
  • Type “View installed updates” in the Search Box.
  • Click the Settings icon.
  • Open it from the Search Results.
  • Updates list will appear on the screen. Click the “Installed on” column to sort the list date-wise.
  • Right click an update installed, select Uninstall.
  • Do the same for other updates installed recently.
  • Restart the computer when you’re done.

For Earlier Versions of Windows:

  • Click the Start button on the Taskbar.
  • Type “View installed updates” in the Search Box.
  • Press ENTER.
  • Refer Steps # 5-8 from Windows 8.1/ 8 user’s paragraph.

Scan the System Files

As the error describes a System file (.sys) has caused Decklink.sys BSOD. Scan all the system files for corruption of the files. The System File Checker tool will automatically restore the original versions that are stored on the Windows installation disc.


For Windows 8.1/ 8:

  • Insert the operating system installation media in your DVD Drive.
  • Press Windows Key + X.
  • Select “Command Prompt (Admin)”.
  • Type the following and press ENTER key:
    sfc /scannow
  • Exit the Command Prompt.

For Earlier Versions of Windows:

  • Click Start.
  • Type “CMD” in the Search Box.
  • Right click that into the Search Results.
  • Select Run as administrator.
  • Refer Steps # 4-5 from Windows 8.1/ 8 user’s paragraph.

Diagnose your Computer’s Memory Problems

Check for memory problems. Start the Memory Diagnostic tool in Windows, and if any problems are found, replace your RAM.


For Windows 8.1/ 8:

  • Press Windows Key + C.
  • The Charms Bar will appear.
  • Click the Search icon.
  • Type “Diagnose your computer’s memory problems” in the Search Box.
  • Click the Settings icon.
  • Open it from the Search Results.
  • Click “Restart now and check for problems” after closing any unsaved work.

For Earlier Versions of Windows:

  • Click the Start button.
  • Type “Windows Memory Diagnostic” in the Search Box.
  • Press ENTER.
