Reinstall the Program

You experience Microsoft Silverlight crashes due to corruption of program files. Uninstalling and reinstalling the program will resolve the issue.

Programs and Features Windows 8

For Windows 8:

  • Move your cursor to the extreme left side of the Taskbar.
  • You’ll see Start Screen icon.
  • Right click it, select “Programs and Features”.
  • Right click “Microsoft Silverlight” and select “Uninstall” button.
  • Follow the on-screen wizard and reboot.
  • Download a fresh setup from Microsoft.

For Earlier Versions of Windows:

Click Start | Control Panel | Programs | Uninstall a Program; or click Start, type “Uninstall a Program” and press ENTER. Other steps remain the same.


Enable Playback of Protected Content

Silverlight crash fix is to enable playback of protected content. You’ll have to change this setting from the Silverlight Configuration dialog box.


  • Double click My Computer desktop icon.
  • Open the following directory:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Silverlight\(Your_Version) (For 64 bit Windows)
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Silverlight\(Your_Version) (For 32 bit Windows)
  • Double click the file “Silverlight.Configuration.exe”
  • Click the Playback tab and check-up the box labelled “Enable playback of protected content”.

Enable Application Storage

Application Storage setting has to be changed from the same Silverlight Configuration dialog box. It’ll work as a Silverlight crash fix.

  • Open the Silverlight Configuration tool again.
  • Click the Application Storage tab.
  • Check-up the box labelled “Enable application storage”
  • Click Delete all | OK.

Repair the Registry

This is the most important thing. Registry contains settings. Bad entries in the Registry causes MS Silverlight crashes. Remove invalid entries, replace corrupt entries with proper information and remove junk entries to troubleshoot the problem.

Download and Install Windows Updates

  • Press the Windows Key.

  • Click the Settings icon.
  • Open it from the Search Results.

Stop Tablet PC Input Service

Sometimes, Tablet PC Input Service conflicts with the functioning of Microsoft Silverlight. In such cases, you’ll have to stop the service and check whether the issues gets resolved.

  • Press the Windows Key.
  • Type “Services.msc” in the Search Box.
  • Click the Apps icon.
  • Open it from the Search Results.
  • Scroll down, locate and right click “Tablet PC Input Service” and select Properties.
  • In the General tab select “Disabled” option under drop down box.
  • Click the “Stop” button and then click OK | Close.

Clear-Up Temporary Files & Cache

Clear-up all temporary files and cache contents. Remove all corrupt files.

For Google Chrome:

  • Open Google Chrome.
  • Click Wrench | Tools | Clear browsing data.
  • In the new dialog select “the beginning of time” dropdown box.
  • Click “Clear browsing data” button to confirm.

For Internet Explorer:

  • Press Alt key to show the menu bar.
  • Click Tools | Delete browsing history.
  • Check-up all the boxes.
  • Click “Delete” button.
