Fix Rpcrt4.dll Error

This error may encounter when the computer is restarted. After shutting down safely, the system boot process fails and displays an error. It also appears while dealing with email client programs like MS Office Outlook.

This error is reportedly occurs on:

  • Microsoft Office Outlook

  • The following error description appears on the screen:

    "Msimn caused an invalid page fault error in module Rpcrt4.dll"

    Modify Registry Configurations

    It looks like the Registry is improperly modified. Some recent changes in the SMTP Virtual Server settings are corrupted. Restore the default values of strings in the Client Protocol sub key.

    For Windows 8.1/ 8:

    • Press Windows Key + X.
    • Click "Command Prompt (Admin)”.
    • Type "RegEdit” and press ENTER.
    • Registry Editor will open. Exit Command Prompt.
    • Locate the following sub key:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Rpc\ClientProtocols
    • For all the strings mentioned below replace the values with one and the same value "rpcrt4.dll” (without quotes). To replace a string value, simply double click the string, overwrite the existing value and then click OK.

      Ncacn_np
      Ncadg_ip_udp
    • Exit Registry Editor.
    • Restart the computer for the changes to take effects.

    Note: In case any of the strings doesn’t exist, create new ones. To create a new string click the Edit menu, select New | String Value. Specify a name for the new string and its value.

    For Earlier Versions of Windows:

    • Press Windows Key + R.
    • Type "RegEdit” and click OK.
    • Refer Steps # 5-8 from Windows 8.1/ 8 user’s paragraph.

    Re-register the Libraries

    You’re getting this error when the DLL file Registry entries get corrupt. Fire up the Command Prompt, unregister and reregister the DLL file. This will fix Rpcrt4.dll error.

    For Windows 8.1/ 8:

    • Press Windows Key + X.
    • Click "Command Prompt (Admin)”
    • Type below commands one by one:

      regsvr32 -u Rpcrt4.dll
      regsvr32 Rpcrt4.dll
    • After successfully unregistering and reregistering the commands please restart your computer.

    For Earlier Versions of Windows:

    • Click the Start button.
    • Select All Programs | Accessories.
    • Right click Command Prompt.
    • Click "Run as administrator” from the context menu options.
    • Refer Steps # 3-4 from Windows 8.1/ 8 user’s paragraph.

    Reinstall Microsoft Office Outlook

    Microsoft Office Outlook shows you an error message because some of its files are deleted/ corrupted. Reinstall the application to get this issue fixed.

    In case of Microsoft Office Outlook:

    For Windows 8.1/ 8:

    • Press Windows Key + X.
    • Click Programs and Features.
    • Right click Microsoft Office.
    • Select "Change” option.
    • Do not uninstall other programs in the Microsoft Office system. Only uninstall Microsoft Office Outlook.
    • Reboot.
    • Insert Microsoft Office installation disc.
    • Repeat Steps # 1-4 again.
    • Install Microsoft Office Outlook.

    For Earlier Versions of Windows:

    • Click the Start button, select Control Panel.
    • Click Programs | Uninstall a program.
    • Refer Steps # 3-7 from Windows 8.1/ 8 user’s paragraph.
    • Reinstall MS Office Outlook again.
