The actual file name varies for different applications. Following are sample ideas of some common files specified in this error message. Please note that the actual file name may vary.

  • C:\Windows\Installer\KAVKIS.msi
  • C:\Windows\Installer\iTunes.msi
  • C:\Windows\installer\iPod for Windows 2005-09-06.msi
  • C:\Windows\Installer\QuickTime.msi

Unregister and Reregister Windows Installer

Many programs are built to install using Windows Installer package. A setup wizard shows error 1316 when there is problem with the DLL registration entries of Windows Installer package. You may have to unregister and reregister the DLL entries.

For Windows 8.1/ 8:

  • Press Windows Key + X.
  • Click “Command Prompt (Admin)”
  • Execute below commands one by one. You’ll receive DLL un-registration and registration message subsequently. msiexec / unreg msiexec / regserver
  • Once the process is successfully performed, type EXIT and press ENTER.
  • Press Windows Key + C.
  • Click the Settings icon in the Charms Bar.
  • Click Power icon, and select Restart. Your computer will reboot.

For Earlier Versions of Windows:

  • Click the Start button.
  • Point to the Search box, type “CMD” in it.
  • The result will appear instantly in the search results.
  • Right click “Command Prompt” and select “Run as administrator”.
  • Refer Steps # 3-4 from Windows 8.1/ 8 user’s paragraph.
  • Click Start, select Restart.

Reinstall HP Printer Driver and Software

HP software comes with the printer along with printer drivers. Error 1316 appears when some printer software files are deleted, unauthorized modified or corrupted. Uninstall the software, uninstall printer drivers and reinstall both of them again.

For Windows 8.1/ 8:

  • Disconnect your printer cables from the computer/ laptop.
  • Press Windows Key + X.
  • Click Device Manager.
  • Expand top category on the left.
  • Expand “Print queues” category.
  • Right click the printer and select “Uninstall” option.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions and then reboot your machine.
  • Press Windows Key + X.
  • Click “Programs and Features”.
  • Right click your HP software from the installed programs list, select Uninstall.
  • Follow the wizard, reboot again.
  • Go to HP Download Center and download latest drivers and HP software from the links given here: HP Printer Drivers | HP Software

For Earlier Versions of Windows:

  • Click the Start button.
  • Type “Device Manager” in the Search Box.
  • Press ENTER.
  • Refer Steps # 4-7 from Windows 8.1/ 8 user’s paragraph.
  • Click Start, select Control Panel.
  • Click Programs | Uninstall a Program.
  • Refer Steps # 10-12 from Windows 8.1/ 8 user’s paragraph.

Remove any Leftover App Data Folders & Fresh Install Kaspersky Pure

If you’re receiving error 1316 with Kaspersky Pure, uninstall it, remove all leftover app data files & folder, and then reinstall the product again.

For Windows 8.1/ 8:

  • Uninstall Kaspersky Pure and reboot your PC. (For guidelines refer “Reinstall HP Printer Driver and Software” paragraph)
  • Double click Computer desktop shortcut.
  • Click the View tab on the ribbon interface on top.
  • Check-up “Hidden items” checkbox.
  • Open following directory: C:\ProgramData
  • Right click “Kaspersky Lab”, select Delete option.
  • Restart the PC once again.
  • Download a fresh setup from Kaspersky Lab and install it.

For Earlier Versions of Windows:

  • Uninstall Kaspersky Pure. (For actual steps refer “Reinstall HP Printer Driver and Software” paragraph)
  • Double click My Computer desktop icon.
  • Click the Tools menu, select Folder Options.
  • Click the View tab.
  • Select “Show hidden files, folder and drives” from “Hidden files and folders”.
  • Click Apply, and then OK.
  • In any of the following folder(s) you may find “Kaspersky Lab” sub folder. Delete it.

    C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Local
    C:\ProgramData
  • Restart your machine.
  • Download a fresh version from the official website and install it.

Remove any Leftover Folders and Fresh Install Blackberry Desktop Software

Uninstall Blackberry Desktop software, delete leftover program files folder and reinstall it once again.

For Windows 8.1/ 8 and Earlier Versions:

  • Uninstall Blackberry Desktop software. (For guidelines refer “Reinstall HP Printer Driver and Software” paragraph)
  • Double click Desktop icon.
  • Delete the following folders:

    C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Desktop
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion
  • Fresh download a new setup online.

Remove Intellisync Contents

If you’re receiving error 1316 during Blackberry synchronization process, remove Intellisync folder contents.

For Windows 8.1/ 8 and Earlier Versions:

  • Disconnect your Blackberry device first and exit Blackberry Desktop Manager.
  • Open the following location:

    C:\Users\Vikas\AppData\Local\Research in Motion\Blackberry\Intellisync
  • Delete all contents from “Intellisync” sub folder.

Note: In case the folder is hidden, refer “Remove any Leftover App Data Folders & Fresh Install Kaspersky Pure” folder for steps on showing hidden files.

Delete Corrupt Files

This solution will be helpful if you’re encountering an error message while using iTunes software.

For Windows 8.1/ 8 and Earlier Versions:

  • Double click Computer desktop icon.
  • Open the following folder:

    C:\Windows\System32
  • Remove the following files:

    QuickTime.qts
    QuicktimeVR.qtx
  • Reboot your PC.

Provide Admin Privileges to Program Folder

A sub folder in your QuickTime Player installation directory may not have necessary administrative privileges. The program cannot retrieve/ modify data from the files stored in this folder. Provide adequate admin privileges for the same.

For Windows 8.1/ 8 and Earlier Versions:

  • Double click Computer desktop icon.
  • Open the following folder:

    C:/Program Files/QuickTime
  • Right click “ QTSystems” sub folder, select Properties. (This folder contains a file called QuickTimeCheck.ocx which is used during runtime.)
  • Click the Security tab.
  • Click Edit button.
  • Check-up all boxes in the “Allow” column under “Permissions for Everyone” category.
  • Click OK | OK.
