Reducing File Clutter to Save Space on Your Computer

When a computer system has been in use for a long period of time, it is inevitable that junk files will pile up on it and result in the wastage of much needed resources. Eventually, this not only reduces your computer’s storage space but also makes your computer slower than usual.

These unnecessary files may also include duplicate files or other temporary ones. However, avoiding such hassles is not an impossible task. All you need to do is learn a few simple tricks and your system will be good to go.

Erase Junk Data from Your Computer

ST Cleaner is a harbinger of strong security principles

Where do these needless files come from?

Considering that a computer’s user is almost always adding or removing software applications, browsing the world of Internet and indulging in various other computational tasks, it can be said that a system will always have unnecessary files accumulated on it.

Experts say that the largest fraction of this junk consists of temporary files. Such files are generated usually while installing new software applications. During this, temporary files are stored in a computer’s hard drive and once their part is over, they need to be removed. Unfortunately, this removal can only be done manually.

Temporary files are also created while a user is running or uninstalling a software application. These files include .bak and .dll files. Furthermore, while a user is browsing the Internet, a computer stores cookies, cache and history. Again, these files are also termed as temporary ones.

Solutions

Removing these inessential files from your computer might be a slightly time consuming task but it is not impossible and definitely worthwhile.

Using ST Cleaner

Several files among these unnecessary ones often lie beneath the category of system files. Since it might be a bit difficult to distinguish between valuable and redundant system files, it is usually not recommended that users interfere with these files manually. Providing a solution to this, a software program called ST Cleaner allows users to get rid of such excess files. The program is quite easy to operate. First, you need to look at System Cache, which will lead you to a new section named Junk Files. Clicking on Clean once the scan is over will immediately do the cleaning job for you!

Running a Built-in Windows Feature: Disk Clean-Up

Currently, all available versions of Windows have a built-in feature of Disk Cleanup. This easy to use feature allows users to conveniently remove unwanted and unnecessary files from a system.

To begin with, you will have to select a drive that you wish to clean up. After right-clicking it, you have to select Properties. Next, choose the Disk Cleanup option. After the wizard has run once, you will be able to see a list of files on your screen, which you can safely delete. Then you can manually decide if you still wish to keep any of those files or if you want to delete them all. After you are done picking the files you wish to delete, you just have to click OK for the cleanup to begin.

Getting rid of Temporary Internet Files

One of the easiest ways to do this is to first go to the Options section of your browser, select History and then click on Clear History. The options might be named differently on different browsers but the process is more or less the same and can be easily figured out. While clearing the history, you might see further options to choose what kind of data you want to delete. For example, you might see an option about whether you want to delete your saved passwords or not. The selections will depend on the user’s personal preferences. Once you have successfully managed to delete these files, you will observe that your browser starts working at an enhanced speed.

Identifying Unused Files

Through using a software application called Disk Space Fan, you can not only identify the files in your system, which you have not used for a long time but you can also sort them out on the basis of their sizes. Due to this, the program will allow you to decide which files you wish to delete and which ones you wish to keep.
